Following on my previous article about the Government requested and recognised Industry UK Taskforce, I want to highlight a meeting that is taking place on Friday 4th December for Associations, organisations, businesses – their employees and networks to be present. If this is you, you can read the details here and register to attend the meeting.
The official letter
The UK Weddings Task Force would like to invite you and your members to an online, live update this Friday, 4th December, at 12 noon. We are extending this invitation to all industry organisations/associations, businesses and employees, whichever part of our sector they work in, to join us for a briefing when members of the interim Working Party will update on progress with the formation of the task force and answer questions. Please distribute details to your Members – who can register here
At the meeting we will advise of progress and relay more details including:
- What a task force is and does
- How the UK Weddings Task Force is being set up, progress, and what the timeframe is
- Who will be on it and how businesses and associations are involved
- What it will focus on
Our work to date indicates consensus around the challenges the task force might focus upon, with the top ranked issues thus far identified as including:
- Roadmap to normality by Easter
- Boosting consumer confidence
- Rapid testing and opening in a Covid secure environment
- Deposit protection scheme
- Wedding insurance & contracts (including ongoing CMA and insurance issues)
- Consumer and sector communication
- Support for businesses
While our sector has some unique characteristics and challenges to solve – most notably the fact that it is viable and that business has not gone away but is simply deferred – much of the work done by the working party over the last three weeks since the Small Business Minister announced in parliament that he would support an industry-led task force, has been to establish a way of working that builds on the progress already made by others, and focuses upon all the unique challenges we face.
We are grateful to Confetti, The Elite Vendors Network, Hitched, The National Asian Wedding Show and Rock My Wedding for collaborating to run an interim communications hub. They are contacting relevant digital/media platforms to inform them about the UK Weddings Task Force update and to ask them to also share details with wedding businesses within their networks.
It is our ambition to swiftly find workable solutions to safely open our sector to larger events as soon as practicably possible (and support – without hindering – the work already underway by others around this issue), find solutions to restore consumer confidence, and seek relevant support to assist our sector so badly affected by the pandemic restrictions. At the same time, we have a unique opportunity for our industry to come together in a way that we have not before to address a whole range of sector-related issues and achieve proper recognition for UK Weddings henceforth.
We hope to see you and your members at the Friday update.
