The return of the FAM trip! A review from Constance of Mrs T Weddings for her visit to Baddow Park House in Essex

Baddow Park House is a luxury private wedding venue in Chelmsford, Essex, favoured for its privacy and seclusion. Luxury wedding planner, Constance Taylor of Mrs T Weddings, explores this country house with a contemporary twist on behalf of The Wedding Industry Journal in the recent familiarisation (FAM) trip. Read her review here;

A striking arrival

Arriving at Baddow Park House I was immediately struck by the impressive red brick architecture of the building, which was originally built in 1893 and holds a striking outline against the sky. As a luxury wedding planner, my thoughts always turn to the photographic potential of a venue that will give my couples the wow-factor, and from the outset, Baddow Park House is teeming with opportunities. The interiors and grounds have been lovingly restored and renovated, and the entire team of staff is dedicated to ensuring guests have a completely personal experience during their stay.

Privacy and exclusivity

One of the biggest selling points for me is the privacy and exclusive access that comes with booking Baddow Park House. Easily accessible from the A12 and close to Stansted Airport for international guests, your couples and their friends and family can have the entire venue at their disposal for a luxury wedding weekend. Having a team of staff purely dedicated to each and every wedding, with no other bookings, guests or catering demands, makes it a wedding planner and supplier’s dream! I simply cannot fault the staff who, through the entirety of my stay, went out of their way to ensure my comfort. No request was too much and I was continuously met with smiles and warmth.

While this country house isn’t necessarily the complete ‘blank canvas’ that some couples might request from their planners, having seen the variety of rooms and spaces available I’m confident that the versatility of the venue can offer something for everyone without diminishing its exclusivity. Baddow Park House prides itself on providing a blend of traditional and contemporary features and this is exactly what I discovered from my stay.

A tour of the rooms

The Oak Room, with its plush sofas, dark wooden panelling and roaring fireplace offers guests breakout space in a relaxed social setting while also being able to cater for intimate 40-50 person ceremonies. The room exudes the grand historical country house aesthetic that you would expect from a building with such heritage.

The Drawing Room offers, by contrast, a bright and airy space with multiple seating opportunities for up to 80 person ceremonies. The room is flanked by several large, tall windows that offer views of the surrounding parkland and ornamental gardens. This space is perfect for a quintessential English countryside style that is soft and whimsical and packed with florals. It is also a beautiful indoor alternative should the weather disrupt plans for an outdoor ceremony.

If you’re searching for a breath-taking space, The Orangery is where Baddow Park House comes into its own. With floor to ceiling windows overlooking the terrace and nearby vineyards, and its clever use of drapes, mirrors and chandeliers, this showstopper space brings the outside in and creates a fusion feel of ballroom meets high-end marquee. With a fully stocked bar, The Orangery can be used for larger ceremonies of 150 guests and seamlessly transitions between ceremony, wedding breakfast and evening celebrations. In using dedicated preferred suppliers, the on-site staff and catering teams turn this expansive room in next to no time with zero fuss.

Exploring the grounds

Outdoor ceremonies centre around the oak wood pavilion surrounded by immaculately tended lawns and gardens. Wedding party entrances take place via a natural stone paved aisle that is covered by a rose flower arbour that is perfect for those seeking the fairytale wedding. Guests can relax in the beautifully maintained grounds that has a Log Shed Bar, pizza oven, barbecue and woodland firepit. These outdoor elements proved to me how much careful thought and consideration has gone into presenting Baddow Park House with a superb range of functional and practical facilities that carry you from day to night. The numerous bars and break out spaces allow for wedding parties to fully relax and take ownership of the venue for the day with complete privacy.

The Wow Factor

Another wow-factor of this venue is The Salon which is perfect for a wedding party’s on-the-day preparation or as a newlywed’s wedding night hideaway. Guests will be welcomed into a stunning contemporary wooden beam cottage that is predominantly open plan, complete with large dining table, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and ample seating spaces. Once again, I was impressed by the amount of thought that has gone into the practical design details and functionality of this space. Large windows and skylights provide plenty of natural lighting for hair and makeup and the décor is minimal and neutral. Chandelier lighting, large mirrors and floral displays add sumptuous details without overcrowding the space that will undoubtedly be used by brides and their wedding photographers. The Salon can also be hired the night before a wedding, subject to availability, for up to eight guests to enjoy dinner and drinks.

Fabulous vibes

My room was located at the front of the house, and I was given a guided tour of all the on-site accommodation. Baddow Park House can sleep up to 30 guests and the rooms do not disappoint. Each one has been carefully renovated and boasts tasteful heritage décor in keeping with the history of the house. Spacious and decorative in a style that is evocative of William Morris, my room was unencumbered by furniture, and had a large luxurious bed, spectacular shower and bathroom and views of the surrounding green spaces and driveway. The décor and high-end finishing, combined with the exclusive booking, gave me all the fabulous vibes to that of Soho’s Farmhouse and Babington House.

VIP treatment

On my tour I discovered more elegant marble bathrooms, freestanding baths and waterfall shower washrooms, all laden with Bamford luxury hair and skincare products. Not only will VIP guests feel pampered during their stay, they can also dine in style thanks to Baddow Park House’s preferred caterers A&Co. The six-course fine dining menu was innovative, beautifully presented and packed with personality while not being overly complicated. While catering to a wide range of cuisines and dietary requirements, A&Co also look after the beverages. Customised drinks menus and classic cocktails are served in a friendly and professional manner and the bar management is expertly organised.
