As a newly established venue we have had to re-think for the near future in order to survive as a business and a team, until the dust settles and we can welcome many more couples and event hosts to enjoy every corner of the building with their guests.
Like many other businesses in the world right now we have been working tirelessly with our current clients, any future clients, our wonderful supplier network of ‘Friends of Thicket Priory’ and of course maintaining efforts to remain visible in a world that has quite frankly gone mad! Our wonderful team has been on the ‘corona-coaster’ with some taking part in the furlough scheme, and unfortunately others taking redundancy. Mental health has been tested, motivation has been hard to find…and as for the lock-down diets, don’t even go there!
The Thicket Priory Way – for you AND your couples
Our new business venture is to open during the winter months for guests to come and stay and experience the ‘Thicket Priory Way’. We have organised two weekends in November and two weekends in December for people to enjoy a great Yorkshire staycation.
Guests will arrive on a Friday afternoon, with an optional afternoon tea followed by some down time to enjoy the grounds or relax in your bedroom, before getting ready for supper. Supper on the first evening will be a two-course dinner, with coffee, before retiring to the bar for a night cap.
What a staycation at Thicket Priory feels like…
Saturday morning you can wake up to a leisurely continental breakfast, setting you up for your day ahead, with the option of visiting York’s historic city, the designer outlet nearby or a country walk for the fresh air which we have all been craving.
Saturday evening is the “Foodie Feast”, where you’ll be served a seven-course tasting menu *vegan and vegetarian menus available. Then the final flurry of food sees a full Yorkshire breakfast served up on Sunday morning before departure.
A fairy-tale location
Thicket Priory is a fairy-tale location, capturing the style of an 1840s home. With tasteful decoration and a fashionable twist on the original character of the building, making every visit timeless!
With 35 ensuite bedrooms in total, we really have a home-from-home feel. This secret gem designed by the architect of Buckingham Palace, Edward Blore is a romantic and ethereal country house in a magical world of its own, yet only 20 minutes from the city of York.
Thicket Priory is set in 18 acres of idyllic gardens surrounded by a world-class nature reserve, the Wheldrake Ings. Whether you love the colours of autumn, the crisp cold of winter, spring blossoms in the orchard or the warmth of summer, there really is beauty in every season.
The History of Thicket Priory is such a special part of your experience, with each room named after someone or something from the past, guests can read these stories when they settle into their bedrooms.
Luxury and home comforts to enjoy
The Gryffin Bar provides the perfect mix of luxury and home-comforts, whether you are dressed up for dinner time or relaxing after an explore of the grounds, you truly will feel at home. We are dog friendly so you are welcome to invite your four-legged friend who will just love exploring the house and grounds. We have accessible bedrooms and reception spaces; the venue is fully inclusive too.
So much more
Since opening just over one year ago on the 6th July 2019, we hosted various events such as a luxury product launch event for GHD, along with having the privilege to marry so many wonderful couples (although not as many as we originally thought by now, only 9 nuptials have taken place so far). Our stunning Ballroom seats up to 200, we have a choice of ceremony locations including our private chapel, the bandstand, and even at the bottom of the grand staircase! Thicket Priory offers everything needed under one roof and does so with genuine warmth, style and luxury.
